09/03/2020

  • Health and Safety focus for SMEs during 2020 Roadshows
  • The HSA will be providing demons and advice at selected ISME Roadshows
  • The next ISME Roadshow featuring the HSA will take place in the Midleton Park Hotel, Midleton, Co. Cork on Wednesday 22nd April

ISME is delighted to partner with the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) for their 2020 Roadshow series. Throughout the year, ISME and the HSA will visit towns and cities across the country providing an opportunity for business owners and managers to network and attend a series of talks and discussions on the key challenges and opportunities facing Irish SMEs in 2020 and beyond.

HSA Inspector, Kay Baxter from its Business and Education Support Unit spoke at the recent Roadshow in the CityNorth Hotel (27th February) to business owners and manager about the free supports available to businesses to help them manage health and safety in a practical way. This includes BeSMART.ie, the free online Risk Assessment and Safety Statement Tool designed specifically for SMEs, and hsalearning.ie where businesses can access free courses to help employers manage safety, health and welfare at work.

Commenting on the new partnership with ISME, Joanne Harmon, Business and Education Support Manager from HSA said, “We are delighted to partner with ISME on this Roadshow series. Managing health and safety at work is good for your business and contributes to the bottom line.  By using free tools such as BeSMART.ie and hsalearning.ie, employers can both be compliant with the law and most importantly prevent work-related illness and injury in practical and straightforward ways.”

Neil McDonnell, ISME CEO added

ISME is delighted to partner with our colleagues in the Health and Safety Authority to get the safety-at-work message across. Compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act can sometimes appear daunting, but so much help is out there. During our Roadshows, the HSA will demystify compliance and tell employers what the enforcement authorities are looking to see. Prevention is better than cure, so we’re really pleased to have the HSA on board.

Employees can also take courses on working safely in a variety of settings.  Before and after event, Kay will be available to meet attendees to show them how using BeSMART.ie and hsalearning.ie can benefit their businesses by improving safety, saving money, time and reducing paperwork.

The next ISME Roadshows include the Maldron Hotel Oranmore on Wednesday 25th March and in the Midleton Park Hotel on Wednesday 22nd April which will feature Kay Baxter with advice and support on Health and Safety for small business.  Find out more about the Roadshows here.
