Friday update – Unfortunately all is not as it seems

Dear Member and Colleague,

After much childish bickering, the Dáil fell silent last night as our TDs went home for their summer recess. However, while the Government announced the ‘July  Stimulus’ on 23rd July, the fine print of the EWSS only emerged on Wednesday evening from the Revenue (here), and it excluded proprietary directors from payment. The TWSS (to become the EWSS) has been the only source of income for very many proprietary directors. Its withdrawal is yet another sign (if we needed one) of how detached the Government and the senior civil service have become from the needs of small business.  We need you to get in touch with your local TD or Minister and tell them that what is being done to proprietary directors is unfair and unjust.  You will find their contact details here. Ring their constituency office and ask to meet them. We told them exactly what was wrong in our Pre-Budget Submission launch.

We are not in the business of preventing politicians taking a holiday, but this one went over their heads because they weren’t paying attention, and were focussed on unemployed people going on their holidays. YOU need to snap them out of it, please do it TODAY.

In other news, our Skillnet is still providing free webinars in an effort to help you in a practical way. This coming month they will hold two mini-series and one afternoon session on the following topics, click the links below for more information:

Our HR Advisor has been busy answering more of your questions this week and has updated our FAQs with the latest. Some additional questions have been included on the TWSS and employees holidaying outside the green list. Read in full here.

Cait has also uploaded a guide to a COVID-19 workplace inspection from the HSA. This is available to be downloaded from our Back to Business session here.

Finally, in response to your questions regarding the availability of COVID-19 financial supports we will run a LIVE Q&A session on Thursday 13th of August, with a panel of experts. This webinar is free and open to all. All questions must be submitted in advance, you can submit while registering here. Spaces are limited to 100.

Please take advantage of the supports we are making available to you; we are enjoining meeting some members for the first time via ZOOM and don’t forget to lobby your local politicians even if they are on their summer hols!

All the best,

Neil McDonnell
