30th April 2024: The Irish SME Association (ISME), notes that today, Tuesday 30th April 2024, is the closing date for the nomination of candidates to contest the European Elections in Ireland, to take place on Friday 7th June 2024. As part of the electoral process, ISME will be asking all declared candidates standing for election, a range of questions, to understand their views on competitiveness, skills for workers, and access to credit.
Each candidate will be asked to respond with their views by the second week of May, and ISME will publish responses in the third week of May, to allow business owners and workers to understand the views of candidates.
Neil McDonnell, the Chief Execuitve of ISME said: “The EU Parliament is a very consequential institution and is now the source of a great deal of national legislation affecting workers, businesses and citizens across the EU through EU Directives and Regulations. It is therefore imperative that citizens understand that the calibre of candidate they elect to the EU Parliament is every bit as important, sometimes more so, than those elected to Dáil Éireann.”
The candidates will be asked a range of questions on topics such as EU policy impacting SME’s entrepreneurship; ESG, environment, labour legislation, skills; and credit.
The three Euro-Constituencies in Ireland are Dublin; Midlands-North-West; and South.
