Government consultation on the future of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB)

ISME are appealing for your help with the Government consultation on the future of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB).

As you know, we had only partial success in our campaign to reduce awards for minor injuries: where we sought an 80% reduction, the Judicial Council has recommended only an approximate 50% decrease.

We will continue to lobby for lower damages, but PIAB reform is also critical because, in personal injuries cases worth less than €100,000, legal costs amount to 63% of the award on average.

PIAB legal costs are a decimal of this amount, therefore it is imperative that we keep as many cases in the PIAB system as possible.

I append ISME’s response to this consultation.

Feel free to send it in yourself, and indeed to edit the contents (in blue) as you wish.

The only thing you must do is insert your own details on page 2.

I encourage as many of you as possible to do this- we want to show how important an issue this is for the entire SME Sector.
