BeSMART.ie is free online tool from the Health and Safety Authority that lets you generate your own workplace risk assessments and safety statement. 

The tool will guide you through the a simple four-step risk assessment process using plain English and easy-to-follow instructions. On completion you will have a workplace-specific safety statement that can be downloaded, edited, printed and actioned.

How does BeSMART.ie work?

Completing your safety statement on BeSMART.ie is simple and straightforward. You will be guided through a four-step process, starting with searching for your business type and ending with printing off your safety statement.

BeSMART.ie does all the hard work for you:

  • Simply register and select your business type
  • Work your way through a series of questions about the hazards in your workplace, answering ‘yes’, ‘no’ or ‘not applicable’
  • You then need to walk around your workplace, consult with your employees and make sure no hazards have been missed
  • When you have finished you can download, edit and print your safety statement

The Choose Safety Programme, is a free programme available to post-primary schools and colleges of Further Education. It introduces senior cycle students/students in further education to the principles of workplace safety and health.  So for employers, look out for the Choose Safety programme awards on CVs when hiring young workers! If you are hiring young workers who haven’t complete the programme, please recommend that they take a free health and safety course here.
