Sometimes it seems as if we spend our time ‘giving out’ and warning Government to sort something out. At one stage my children thought I worked in “ISME SLAMS”!!!
However, today we have some good news to share.
Our latest CSR report has found that all SMEs are active in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), even the ones who didn’t know they were involved – and this activity has increased since our last survey in 2013.
Unfortunately, because it’s a good news story, and Greece is in the news, efforts to get the press to cover this have been unsuccessful, so far.
There also does seem to be a little bit of confusion about what CSR actually is, so we’d like to clear that up for you:
CSR is about being a responsible business that makes a positive contribution to the local community, minds the environment, pays suppliers on time and helps staff to achieve their potential.
You are already ‘doing CSR’ and we in ISME think it’s about time you got recognition for it. Remember it’s not just Big Business that ‘does CSR’.
Who ever thought that:-
94% of SMEs donate money to charity.
94% have waste reduction programmes.
92% have a recycling programme.
92% are committed to the responsible business practice of paying promptly.
84% actively support the learning and development of their employees.
39% of SMEs have a charity partner (up from 35% in 2013).
It can have worthwhile benefits for you. It improves your competitive advantage, helps staff retention, improves brand recognition and can make you a preferred supplier.
We need to work together to ensure that SMEs get the recognition they deserve for this good work.
